Reasons Why Advocating for Human Rights Is Important

Human rights are the basic rights and freedoms that belong to every single person in the world. They apply regardless of religion, nationality, language, race, sex, ethnicity, or lifestyle. Advocacy & human rights are essential as these universal rights are inherent to us all. However, several countries are guilty of violating the human rights of their citizens.

As a non-profit organization in Newark, New Jersey, we will discuss reasons why human rights matter.

• Meet basic necessities
  Everyone needs access to shelter, medicine, clothing, food, and water to survive. These are considered basic human rights, which sets a baseline level of dignity. Unfortunately, many individuals and families do not have access to these necessities. Making it a matter of human rights allows activists and organizations to work towards getting those for everyone.
• Protect vulnerable groups
  The Declaration of Human Rights was created to protect vulnerable groups from abuse. As an organization fighting for Biafra Referendum, we offer social services as we understand the importance of human rights and gaining access to the resources our people need to become healthy, productive individuals again.
• Encourage freedom of speech
  The ability to speak freely without fear of brutal reprisal is expansive. It encompasses ideas and forms of expression that not everybody agrees with. However, no one should ever feel like they are in danger from their government for what they believe in. Human rights protect our freedom of speech and expression.
