Realities of Living in a Lawless Country

Posted on January 20, 2023 by Louise Savoie

realities-of-living-in-a-lawless-countryOver several years, Nigeria has been facing a lot of internal issues and conflicts that are resulting in unimaginable devastation to its people. Since the civil war, the lives of the people are uncertain, and they are living in peril. This is the reason why they created the Biafra Referendum to address their concerns.

With so many violent crimes, murders, robberies, extortions, and other mayhem often occurring around the nation, it is clear that the current legal framework is unable to stop the sharp increase in criminal activity.

As a non-profit organization in Newark, New Jersey, we from RisingSun Charities Organization believe that the following issues are still present in Nigeria:

  • Corruption
Regardless of who holds the reins of power, this appalling state of affairs persists and negatively impacts police efforts to combat crime. Due to the influence of politicians, many steadfast police officers who are courageous enough to deal with the underworld’s kingpins receive prompt transfers to challenging locations as opposed to being rewarded.
  • Violence
Nigeria has a multifaceted and pervasive violence problem, including gang violence, armed robberies, attacks on police stations, airports, and power transformers, ritual killings, mob justice, and routine intimidation of regular citizens by law enforcement. These are the common issues that we want to address in our Biafra restoration in New Jersey.
  • Killings
Official or not, the majority of killings in Nigeria go unsolved. The recent rise in vigilante justice, or cases where civilians have broken the law themselves, is mainly attributable to mistrust of the police and the Nigerian terrorist government.

Nigeria is a lawless state. Even as the government continues to search for a solution, the security situation has dramatically deteriorated across the nation.
